from 2pm in Penryn Town Centre What is Kemeneth?
Kemeneth means “Community” in Cornish. The Kemeneth project was a single day event celebrating 800 years of culture and heritage in Penryn. Its themes are drawn from The Ordinalia. The day included a mixed and varied programme of live music and events across several stages around the town; a procession of over twenty giant puppets accompanied by samba bands, choirs and dance groups; heritage and market stalls; a Big Top in Glasney College Field filled with circus performers and four staged scenes from The Ordinalia created by the Dream Team. What is the Ordinalia?
In 2015 we staged a pop-up production of The Ordinalia - a Cornish Medieval Mystery Play cycle, using Alan M Kent's translation from Cornish, in Kings Cross, London. There is strong evidence that the three plays written during the early fifteenth century in Middle Cornish (with Latin stage directions) cycle were written at Glasney College in Penryn before its closure in 1545.
